The USA has committed to a sustainable reduction inCO2 emissions. Since then, numerous projects have been initiated and the Biden administration has tightened its climate protection targets and passed several funding packages. The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act alone provides 90 billion US dollars (US$) in tax credits and grants for public transport, 21 billion US$ for environmental projects, 7.5 billion US$ for electric vehicles and 65 billion US$ for energy infrastructure.

However, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration , industry is still responsible for 30 percent of all primary energy-relatedCO2 emissions in the country with annual emissions of 1,360 million tons (as of 2020).

Industries with high savings potential receive funding Based on this, the Ministry of Energy is focusing on the five industrial sectors with the highest greenhouse gas emissions: petrochemicals, chemicals, the iron and steel industry, cement production and food processing. Together, these sectors are responsible for 52 percent of industrial CO2 emissions and 15 percent of total CO2 emissions.
