A process of rethinking has begun in the USA: climate protection and environmental programs are intended to turn US companies into technology leaders.

Climate strategy: USA heads for the green era

The USA has committed to a sustainable reduction inCO2 emissions. Since then, numerous projects have been initiated and the Biden administration has tightened its climate protection targets and passed several funding packages. The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act alone provides 90 billion US dollars (US$) in tax credits and grants for public transport, 21 billion US$ for environmental projects, 7.5 billion US$ for electric vehicles and 65 billion US$ for energy infrastructure.

A 6% increase inCO2 emissions in 2021 compared to the previous year in the Biden administration's first year in office was due to the ramp-up of economic activity following the strict anti-Covid measures. Nevertheless, emissions in 2021 remained below the pre-pandemic level of 2019.

The ecological goal of the DOE strategy is to accelerate the reduction of emissions. However, it also pursues the strategic goal of strengthening the USA's competitive position: The broad application and production of advanced climate protection technologies should make the USA the country with the most innovative industry. Climate protection works in the USA through cooperation between the public and private sectors: authorities provide funding, industry follows the call. (as of 05.04.2023)
