US government boosts decarbonization of industry

The ecological goal of the DOE strategy is to accelerate the reduction of emissions. However, it also pursues the strategic goal of strengthening the USA's competitive position: The broad application and production of advanced climate protection technologies should make the USA the country with the most innovative industry.  


Climate protection works in the USA through cooperation between the public and private sectors: authorities provide funding, industry follows the call. (as of 05.04.2023) 

However, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, industry is still responsible for 30 percent of all primary energy-relatedCO2 emissions in the country with annual emissions of 1,360 million tons (as of 2020).

Industries with high savings potential receive funding Based on this, the Ministry of Energy is focusing on the five industrial sectors with the highest greenhouse gas emissions: petrochemicals, chemicals, the iron and steel industry, cement production and food processing. Together, these sectors are responsible for 52 percent of industrial CO2 emissions and 15 percent of total CO2 emissions.
